I have a lot of things to be thankful for this year. I’m not going to make a list (I don’t do sentiment very well), but I am a very fortunate human being. I have friends and family who love me despite my many failings. I have a mostly fantastic day job–work that helps to make a difference in the world and a great group of people to work with.

I’ve started writing fiction after a 20 year break and I’ve been fortunate to have two essays published this year (one co-written with my partner in awesome, Annalee Flower Horne). I’m able to go to conventions and meet the people who live inside my computer and my phone and those people are just as awesome in person as they are inside my computer and phone.

Sometimes, my yelling on the internet helps to make things a little bit better in my community and I’m grateful that my small voice can help even a tiny bit.

There’s a lot of awful in the world right now. I don’t want to gloss over it, but I also don’t want to dwell on it today.

There is value in taking time to think about the good things in life and being grateful for them. I haven’t always been so fortunate and there are times when I look around and think I am so lucky to be alive right now.

I find myself astonished by the richness of my life and if you think I might be talking about you, I am.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
