Pinborough’s cookie-giving doesn’t surprise me. There are some rather problematic elements in her novels as Sarah Silverwood: I am hoping Tor.com will publish the piece – er, rant – I wrote about them.

(In short those books sum up as BOYS YAY.)

Sorry, I have to say this because its annoying me and the comments on that Richard Cohen racist profiling article are closed – Mozambique is not part of South Africa. Here its usually dark foreigners that are profiled and targeted for harassment – and ironically (tragically) in one of the most recent high profile ‘incidents’, the victim was Mozambican [see http://www.iol.co.za/news/crime-courts/video-shows-man-dragged-behind-police-van-1.1478398#.UemiZ9JHJ0Q%5D, as was the iconic victim of the 2008 xenophobic violence [see http://mg.co.za/article/2010-07-30-no-justice-for-burning-man%5D. Ok, done, sorry again. Thanks.

I was sort of thinking about seeing Pacific Rim. The fun fashion analysis also makes me think maybe there’s a little more world-building in it than I had realized, so now I’m more interested.
