I’m not gonna lie: I’m still super-psyched about the whole Hugo finalist thing. I wish I could go to Helsinki, but it’s simply not going to be possible. Alas.

(I did, however, purchase a new fountain pen: a Sailor Pro Gear Slim in a lovely bluish-purple. If one can’t buy a fancy pen when one is a finalist for a Hugo, when can one?)

But my plants have shipped! I expect them to arrive sometime next week–which is good, because I’m getting really tired of looking at the 15 bags of mulch in my driveway. The tree situation out back is also going to be handled next week–I referred the company we’re using to our community association and I guess they got the contract and will be taking care of our yard at the same time they take care of the common area behind our yard.

Now that the plants are well and truly on their way, I’m starting to freak out a little bit: I’ve never had a garden before. What if everything dies? Luckily, no single plant I purchased was very expensive, so if there are casualties (and let’s face it, there are going to some casualties) they won’t be expensive casualties.
