Exclusive Excerpt: E. Catherine Tobler’s Watermark

I don't normally do promotional posts here, but E. Catherine Tobler is a dear friend and a wonderful writer (also, I do work for Masque Books but I would say those things anyhow!) and she has given me an exclusive excerpt from her new book, Watermark. If you like what you read here, you can pop over to her place and in exchange for telling her who your...

Guest Post: Michi Trota of Uncanny

Today I'm happy to present a guest post from Michi Trota, Managing Editor for the new science fiction and fantasy magazine, Uncanny. I've backed their Kickstarter and I hope you'll consider it as well. I grew up reading/watching a lot of science fiction and fantasy. A lot. Star Trek and Doctor Who were almost always on the TV. We wore out our VHS copy of...

What Happened After I Reported

Elise Matthesen--who I am honored to call my friend--has written the following essay about what happened after she reported harassment at WisCon 37.   Comments are moderated. The ban hammer is out. Last year at WisCon 37, I told a Safety staffer that I had been treated by another attendee in a way that made me uncomfortable and that I believed to be...

Guest Post: Sunny Moraine on the Importance of Non-Fiction

Sunny Moraine, friend of The Radish and all-round awesome human being, has a collection of essays out today--and they were kind enough to write me a lovely essay about the importance of non-fiction in genre. I’m not sure what actually made me decide to collect two years of essays and blog posts into a book. It’s not that any of the content is exclusive –...

Hurray, regular commenter --E has finally written me a guest post! <3 Natalie's been prodding me for a guest post for a while. But this past weekend Hugh Howey, the bestselling self-publishing author...

Hello! I'm Natalie Luhrs.

I write about books, culture, disability, and whatever else strikes my fancy. I have many opinions.

I am a two-time Hugo Award finalist, in 2017 for Best Fan Writer and in 2021 for my essay “George R.R. Martin Can Fuck Off Into the Sun, Or: The 2020 Hugo Awards Ceremony (Rageblog Edition)” in the Best Related Work category.

Please do not offer me medical advice. I have something like 10 doctors and it’s already pretty challenging to keep up with what they want me to do. I do not have the bandwidth to process any advice that doesn’t come from one of my doctors, no matter how well meant the advice may be. Thank you!

Wishlists

Look, I know it’s crass, but I’m unemployed and not going to have an income until my SSDI goes through and who knows when that’ll be, so here’s some wishlists in case you want to buy me something. I try to keep them reasonably up to date.
